View of Conna castle

This is a portrait of the historic and picturesque Conna castle in north east Cork. It is perched on a limestone rock overlooking the meandering river Bride. It is approx. 24 metres in height and very well preserved with a winding staircase going right to the top. The building was begun in 1554 by Thomas Rua FitzGerald, son of James 14th Earl of Desmond. The castle was witness to many battles and revolts down through the centuries.
